Oakmont bakery was an experience. You walk in and can grab a number that will eventually be called for ordering. The inside is huge with a lot of seating and has a very large variety to choose from. It was honestly a bit overwhelming. They have tons of cookies, cakes, pastries, breads, and even hot foods! As someone who had never been here I grabbed a number right away not knowing how intense the selection process would be or how quickly the numbers would be called. I wasn't ready by the time they called my number so I looked around a bit longer and then grabbed another number when I was closer to deciding. We ended up choosing the almond cupcake and cinnamon roll with maple icing and nuts on top. I'd never seen either of these before so I figured why not! The cinnamon roll was amazing! The almond cupcake had a beautifully made sponge but it had absolutely no flavor which was a big disappointment. As I was leaving I saw they also had fries and I wish I had a chance to try them because they looked fantastic. Although I was disappointed with the cupcake I'd definitely come back and give one of the many other options a try! Also the parking is kind of a mess. The lot is really small and the spaces are pretty tight and turning to get out is a little annoying as well but at least there is some parking!
My brother ordered this cake for my sister-in-law for her birthday and since they live out in New Castle, PA now and I live in Penn Hills/North Bessemer I was tasked with picking up the cake. I came to pick the cake up with my husband. I sent him in to grab the cake and I waited in the car. When I see him walking over, I jump out and I opened the hatch to put this giant box in the trunk and when he sat it down he opened the lid.. my first thought was "there is a package in this box" and I quickly realize what it is.. the cake! He tells me that when the oakmont bakery person brought him the cake he was like "where's the cake" and had a bizarre look on his face and the lady said "they can't all be perfect", thinking his expression was perhaps a negative one.. we had no idea what my brother ordered and were certainly not expecting an Amazon package..we stood at the trunk laughing at this cake bc it really was the perfect cake for Ashley, but also bc this cake looked so darn real it was unbelievable! Oakmont Bakery always does an amazing job and this cake was seriously awesome! Great job once again!!
A Pittsburgh institution! I've been to the original Oakmont Bakery a few times before, yet this was my first visit to the newer, larger place. It was very impressive, not small and cozy like some of the little family owned bakeries or local chains, but absolutely worth checking out. While I wouldn't normally visit on a busy weekend day, I was in the area and had to stop. And they absolutely have a system down to handle any size crowd! Simply grab a number and they have a number of employees lined up to help you with any size order. I wanted a drink and a few small bakery items, so after scoping out the offerings I headed to the cafe area to order a drink. The self serve computers made it easy to order any of the wide variety of drinks, I chose a s'mores latte. While waiting for it to be made I headed back up to the counters, grabbed a ticket, and eyed an eclair and small chocolate cream pie. Yes, this is a great place for us chocoholics! After no more than a few moments it was already my turn, and I was able to pick my items up. The exterior and interior are very nice and modern, and the bakery is easily accessible in the middle of Oakmont and near the bridge. Parking is limited in front of the building, but plenty more is available behind it across from the park. The large variety of cakes, bagels, cookies, donuts, and seasonal items ensure there is something for everyone. And the large number of workers up front and in the back ensure they don't run out and you can be served quickly. Thanks!
Oakmont bakery is a must visit!! I've been about a dozen times, trying something new each time and I'm always pleased. Pro tip -- get there early!! The line gets very long very fast, so the earlier you go the better. Even with the long line, the staff gets through it very quickly and friendly. I've tried breakfast sandwiches, lunch salads, cookies, and coffees, and it's all incredible. There's space to eat your food or you can do take out. Everytime I'm in the area I make sure to stop!
I remember being in high school when the small mom-n-pop location opened up and now, Oakmont Bakery is a huge bakery and café with sprawling cases of beautiful pastries, donuts, cookies, cakes, bagels and bread. It is truly destination donuts. Take a number when you walk in the door and have your order ready for when it comes up on the screen. Oakmont bakery is impressive with the sheer volume of sweet and some savory options.
Of course I have heard about this place, and in the last year they must've upped their ads or something because it was all over my IG. Speaking of which, they have the best social media because the reels make me laugh every time. I was nervous on what the heck to do but got it. Everything I had was perfect. Small cheesecakes, thumb print cookie, black and whites and red velvet cupcake. Also in the market for a wedding cake and believe it or not that have pre packaged small 6 inch ish cakes to try and popped on one of those, too. Crazy thing is I didn't eat it until 4 days later and it was still fresh and moist. I feel like I could work here.
Stopped here on a late Saturday afternoon. It was on the short list of things to visit. And I'm glad we did, as this place was an ant hill and just wall to wall entertainment. Grab a number upon walking in, waiting, number called and pointing with a pastry box. Got some black and white cookies. As well as seasonal thumbprint and chocolate thumbprint cookies. The b&W were harder than my personal preference, but very good. Thumbprints were soft and very very sweet - very well made. Also sampled the small cupcake-style cheesecakes. This was good - though hard to negotiate with the liner. Overall very good.
Oakmont Bakery is a large, family-owned bakery that opened in 1988. The selection of baked goods is huge: bagels, breads, cakes, coffee cakes, cookies, cupcakes, donuts, pastries, pies, some gluten-free desserts, etcetera! This business also has a cafe that sells foods such as bagels, croissants, breakfast sandwiches, cheese breads, crepes, frozen custards, pastries, salads, sandwiches, soups, waffles, and beverages. For years, I have visited this business to purchase their baked goods. This review will provide information about my most recent experiences. A few months ago, my husband and I ate brunch at this bakery's cafe on a busy Saturday morning. We easily found a table and chairs. We used a touchscreen kiosk to order our foods and drinks. We waited about 20 minutes for our foods and drinks to be ready. We enjoyed the flavors of everything that we ate: a Nutella-strawberry-banana crepe, a sausage-egg-cheese croissant, a cream-cheese bagel, a strawberry lemonade, and an orange juice. The total price was a reasonable $28. This past weekend, I held a 50th wedding anniversary party for my in-laws, and from Oakmont Bakery, I had purchased a half-sheet chocolate cake, a half-sheet vanilla cake, and two dozen apricot kolache cookies. The cut-off time for ordering customized cakes was only 2 days, but about 2 months before the party, I used Oakmont Bakery's website to order the two cakes. The website gave me many options for size, shape, inscription wording, and flavors of batter, filling, and icing. I easily figured out how to place the order and to choose a pickup time. The total price for 2 half-sheet cakes was $150. On the day of pickup, I stood in a line of customers. My two cakes were ready on time and were handed to me in sturdy boxes. To buy the apricot kolache cookies, I took a number and waited until my number was called. I asked for the cookies, and a courteous employee boxed them, charged $19, and thanked me. At the party, my family and guests seemed to enjoy the cakes and cookies. My mom-in-law said that she enjoyed the chocolate cake. I do not usually like chocolate cakes, but I ate one piece of Oakmont Bakery's chocolate cake and enjoyed every bite of it. I also liked the flavors of the vanilla cake and the apricot kolache. Tip: The business's website says that the "Sweet Line" is for picking up Pre-Paid Orders and for purchasing prepackaged items, the "Bakery Line" is for buying all available items in an unlimited quantity, and the "Café Line" is for dining on popular bakery items.
It's shameful that I lived in Pittsburgh for over 20+ years and just today made my inaugural debut. We ordered a birthday cake (Red Velvet Torte) and got mesmerized by the variety of items - mainly sweet but also savory. I felt like a kid in a candy store and by the faces of other patrons, they felt the same. Loved the store location and the setup. There are also seats available to sit and eat. For breakfast, we also picked up a few items and thought the prices were pretty reasonable.
OB is the best bakery in Pittsburgh and I'm so glad I live close by. I regularly pick up a dozen donuts to take work and everyone loves them. Their breakfast sandwiches are even better in my opinion. This time my girlfriend and I got a couple MTO breakfast sandwiches to go and they hit the spot. I can only give 4/5 stars for this visit because they forgot my gf's hash brown on the side :( . With that being said these things are elite and I would put them up against any other breakfast sammy in the world. OB's staff is always friendly and polite. The place is truly a spectacle.
